My daughter sent me this link http://www.diacenter.org/km/painting.html. It has images of the "most wanted" and "least wanted" paintings for different countries. It is pretty appalling but when I read more of the site I found out that the people didn't look at the paintings - instead they answered questions about what they like in art. Like: indoor scenes or outdoor scenes, domestic animals or wild animals, etc. and then the people doing the study made paintings to match the most popular choices. I'll try to post the ones for the USA.

 USA Most USA Least

Most countries were similar (even France!) except for Holland.

Holland most wanted painting.

Holland least wanted painting (I agree!)

Here's one of my hands. I'm not too unhappy about the outline but I had a lot of trouble with the "interior" lines.

very nice drawing Will!   You can post a larger image if you want ( this is a little small and difficult to see) Ph.

I like the hand Will.  Especially the thumb and the thumb joint area.  I notice you drew it wrong handed.  Brenda

I really liked learning a little about abstract art, but I found doing it very challenging.

I liked the pastels though, it was a lot more fun using them than colored pencils!

I really liked this video of  Mondrian's work. I loved how the representational paintings morphed into the abstracts so you could see the similarities between them.

Did anyone else find the crumpled piece of paper very hard to draw? The lesson showing the values of the different areas was really helpful but somehow mine looks more like a bunch of black and gray triangles than a piece of paper. I also found that I like some kinds of charcoal much better than others and my favorite tool was the kneaded eraser!

I like your abstract piece. I especially like the small short piece that ends on either side.
